Exercising is good for you when you’re pregnant and can also help the baby, but you should always ask your doctor before starting an exercise routine. Also, you should not have a high risk pregnancy if you want to excercise. Some things that you should do while your exercising is to do it regularly and try not to do things that have jumping in them. You should also try not to do things on your back after the first trimester and drink lots of water. The most important rule is to not over do it.

There are lots of good reasons why you should exercise when you’re pregnant. It helps you feel great during your pregnancy days. It also decreased your chances of high risk pregnancies and premature death, heart disease and other diseases. You can also have a lower risk of having diabetes and helps you not get depression.

You should also try to pick an exercise that you enjoy to make it more easy and fun. Some of the things you shouldn’t be doing are horseback riding, downhill skiing, ice hockey, kickboxing and soccer. They can put you and the baby at risk of injury and even killing the baby.

Also try to eat right if you exercise. You should try 300 to 500 additional calories a day when pregnant. You should eat all kinds of fruits and vegetables not only for you, but the baby too. You both need nutritious foods. It’s also important to drink lots of water before and after your exercise. You can become dehydrated and this could be bad for the both of you. Even though there really isn’t a right amount that you should drink some say that its best if you just drink one cup before you exercise, one cup for every 20 minutes of exercise, and one cup after you finish your workout. Also if it’s hot or if it’s humid you should drink even more.

Its best if every woman just exercises as much as they can. It can help in many ways. Pregnant women become healthier and more fit. The baby is more likely to be healthy and not become premature.

You really need better transition in between paragraphs.
Not sure what grade you’re in, but the end, your sources…not acceptable. I don’t think your teacher will like the way you ‘formated’ your sources.

Also, I have no clue what this means: "full sition for the besite bellow"

Anyways, I made some corrections:

Exercising is good for you when you’re pregnant and can also help the baby. You should always ask your doctor before starting an exercise routine and you should not exercise if you have a high risk pregnancy. You should exercise regularly and try not to do movements that have jumping involved, such as jumping jacks. You should avoid exercises that involve you laying on your back after the first trimester and drink lots of water. The most important rule is to not over do it.

There are a lot of good reasons why you should exercise when you’re pregnant. Exercise helps you feel great during your pregnancy . It decreases your chances of high risk pregnancies and premature death, heart disease and other diseases. You can also lower the risk of having diabetes and it prevents depression.

You should also try to pick an exercise that you enjoy to make it more easy and fun. Some of the things you shouldn’t be doing are horseback riding, downhill skiing, ice hockey, kickboxing and soccer. All of these exercises can put you and the baby at risk of injury and could even kill the baby.

Also you need to eat right while pregnant and exercising. You should consume 300 to 500 additional calories a day when pregnant. You should eat all kinds of fruits and vegetables not only for you, but the baby too; you both need nutritious foods. It’s also important to drink a lot of water before and after your exercise. If the temperature is hot or humid you should consume even more.

Its best if every pregnant woman exercises as much as they safely can. Exercise has so many benefits. Pregnant women become healthier and more fit and the baby is more likely to be healthy and grow full term.

Education Reform (CA)?

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

It’s no secret, our system of education is not working. I was talking with my girlfriend this morning, and we kinda came up with a proposal.

We’re going to send a letter to the State Board of Education, but first we wanted to ask Y!Answers a question.

Our goal is to:

1. Get rid of subjects that aren’t really used in society.
2. Add subjects that are necessary in society.
3. Cut down the amount of time kids spend in school (by law).
4. Make schooling more efficient.

What do you think should be core subjects students K-8 take?

We came up with a couple, feel free to add to or critique what we have…

Elementary School
1. Math (Up to Basic Algebra, percentages, interest, etc…)
2. English (Grammar, Vocabulary, Spelling, Sentence Structure, Formal and Business Letters, etc…)
3. Social Studies (Basic laws, our Political System, what it means to be a citizen, how to participate in government, the court system, etc…)
4. Computer Science (Basic computer skills, Basic office skills: Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.., how to navigate the internet, etc…)
5. Physical Education
6. Optional: Electives (Music, Dance, Art, etc…) You have to pay for these or do some fundraising though

Middle School
1. Health (Nutrition, exercise)
2. Application of Elementary Courses. For example, have them watch the local news and throughout the year work on ways they can help work towards a solution to a problem in their society. In other words, teach kids how to apply what they’ve learned to real life.
3. Sex Education (Abstinence, Protection, Consequences, etc…) This is important though, teachers will have to be as unbiased as possible. Really teaching kids about everything, without leaning one way or another. This class should also try to involve each students’ parents as much as possible.
4. Drugs and Alcohol (This includes prescription drugs as well as illicit drugs)
5. Voting (Students need to become more politically active so that their voices are heard)
6. Social Life (Kind of like a Career Guidance class. Talk to kids about why it’s good to pursue further education – High School – and explain to kids what they can expect if they finished at 8th grade or so. Explain what kind of jobs they can get, but also how they won’t be able to get paid as much or move up as easily as they could if they continued their education)

We think that by making High School optional, the kids that want to be their will be more motivated to stay. We’re losing a lot of kids due to overcrowded High School classrooms, and overcrowded with kids that don’t want to be there. They’re disruptive and the teacher has to sacrifice the education of the many for the few. I think by doing this, we’ll shrink class sizes drastically, and give teachers and schools greater control of their classrooms.

There can be social benefits for staying in school, like job assistance and welfare aid available to those who finish High School. A two-fold minimum wage. One for those who only complete Junior High, and one for those who complete High School.

Instead of trying to graduate everyone (thus reducing the meaning of a High School Diploam) we should focus what we teach our kids in middle and elementary classes, and then let those who want to continue receive better education in High School.

History shouldn’t be taught in middle school. It makes no sense, and it puts kids off school. They get so used to b#tching to each other about their classes that it just continues straight on through High School. I know this proposal is radical, but we need a change badly. And what better state to try it in, than California.

Thoughts?
MissBehavior…I’m not sure I understand all of what you mean. What exactly am I leaving out? I’m simply postponing those classes that tend to cause children to be put off of school for a later period (high school). How does history or science or whatever else I’m "leaving out" help develop a child’s soul?

Keep in mind these classes are in place now, and they aren’t doing anything except making the lives of serious high school students and high school teachers miserable.

All I’m suggesting really, is to reogranize our education system. Teach students the importance of education before "educating" them. Understand?

Instead of teaching European history in 7th grade, when students couldn’t care less, teach them European history in 10th grade and use the extra time in 7th grade to help them understand the importance of learning as much about our past as the basic skills you need to survive in society.

By the way, I’d expect that most parents would still have their kids go to HS

I am a teacher. I think what needs to be done is this: test the children in a class each year, as school begins. At the end of that year, retest the children. I believe where there has been no learning, there was no teaching. Teachers are quite often not really in to teaching! Some dislike the children. Some are just lazy. I believe elementary children should be tested, first. This is where children (without realizing it) decide if they even like school or NOT. The happy teacher, who teaches well, will show a classroom of students who have learned a lot from that teacher.

The Easy Guide To Cat Ownership

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

While the title of this article may be a non sequitur, cat ownership doesn’t have to be difficult. Cats are highly intelligent and can be trained to do tricks, and can provide years of wonderful companionship. Here is an easy guide to making the most out of your relationship with your cat.

Cats are usually perceived as loners who do not need affection. This is not entirely true. They need affection, they just like to pick the times when they want it. This may mean that your cat decides that 4am is the best possible time for them to have their head scratched, but you can usually train them to respect your sleeping schedule. The key to a happy relationship with your cat is to accept their idiosyncrasies and learn to work within them.

Cat nutrition is an area that is receiving more attention in the media. Cats by nature are carnivores and most brands of cat food include much more grain than meat products. This can create health problems for your cat, such as diabetes. If you are concerned about your cat’s health, make sure to read the labels on their food. Try to find cat food’s that contain more meat than grain, even if you have to moved to canned food.

Although cats can be destructive, especially to your sofa, they can be trained to confine their scratching activities to “good” areas, such as their scratching post. While many people prefer to declaw their cats, this practice is becoming more reviled in certain circles. When the cat is declawed, they are essentially losing a knuckle of their toe joint, a prospect that is certainly painful. If you decide not to declaw your cat, frequently trim their nails to minimize the damage they can cause.

Spaying and neutering cats is just as important as it is with dogs. Even though your cat may never leave your house, they are still at risk for certain problems that can arise if you do not have them spayed or neutered. Intact male cats are more likely to “spray” or mark their territory than cats who have been neutered. Owners of female cats can certainly attest to the fact that listening to a yowling cat in heat is not a pleasant event.

One of the main issues with cat ownership is proper hygiene, particularly when it comes to the litter box. Once you have trained your cat to use the litter box, try to reinforce their behavior at least one a week to make sure they continue to use their box. Some cats will prefer an extremely clean box, while others couldn’t care less. However, you could personally be at risk for disease if you don’t keep your cat’s litter box clean.

Your cat may not appear to need as much love as a dog or other house pet, but don’t let their cool facade fool you. They need you more than you know and with some boundaries, love and training, cats can be wonderful and giving companions.

help! i need to plan a day of activities for preschoolers!?

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

i’m taking a child psychology class in school (i’m in high school) and we have a preschool class that we work with
so for our major assignment for the class, we have to plan a "day" for the kids
we have to plan a craft, pick a book to read, and a physical game/activity that goes with our theme
my partner picked the theme: health & nutrition

so heres the problem:
we cant think of a game for the kids to play..
theres about 12 kids, boys and girls

PLEASE HELP!!!
thanks :)

you could play the shopping game where you make a list with pics and then they have to find the things around the room and tick them off and put them in their basket use healthy food!
maybe this would be better done in groups make and print of a pic of a plate and laminate it then find different foods on the net that they would know healthy and unhealthy print off and laminate cut up (make a few plates and food) get a bowl or tub to be the bin then take in turns to pick one of the laminated pieces out of a bag if its healthy put on their plate if not in the bin but let them decide could also make drinks juice milk etc and a pudding maybe make it so the only need to pick meat and 2 veg type of thing for main one pudding and one drink if they already had the meat just put it back in the pot.
ok complicated to explain but bear with me lol draw a child size body shape on paper (real life size) and stick it on the wall put a big tub by the side of the child(picture) and then youl need to get either pics or real thing a toothbrush, a fruit, sandwich, drinks bottle, bike/scooter, something for dinner, pyjamas, toothbrush, basicly things they need to keep healthy and 1 by one the children must run from one end of the room to the other put item in the tub run back then the next goes back and forth till the end, wither split into groups which might be better for preschoolers concentration.adapt it to what would be easier!!

The Coaches' Guide to Sports Nutrition - Book

The Coaches’ Guide to Sports Nutrition – Book This easy-to-read book will help coaches of all activities and competitive levels understand the established scientific principles of nutrition that can facilitate athletic success. Authors Bernardot and Thompson help guide coaches through the huge muddle of nutrition information (and miss-information) with which they are regularly confronted. In addition, this book provides practical nutrition suggestions that coaches can apply immediately with known positive results. Chapters address why nutrition is important for all coaches and athletes, vitamins, minerals, hydration, endurance, power, and team-sport nutrition, weight and body composition, strategies for building muscle, ergogenic aids, special environments (heat, cold, high humidity, high altitude), special considerations for young athletes, female athletes, and older athletes, and much, much more. Each chapter concludes with a concise summary and list of key points.
