A Blueprint for Resolving the Current Crisis in the American Way of Life

Monday, May 10th, 2010

For most of the past decade, a number of editorial writers, politicians, members of the clergy, and other pundits have described America as a nation in some sort of crisis. They point to a growing number of people who drop out of high school, who are living on probation, parole, or in prison, who are victims of domestic or criminal assault, who are addicted to drugs or alcohol, who are infected with sexually transmitted disease, who are having abortions, who are giving birth outside of marriage, who are getting divorced, or who are relying on Ritalin, Xanax or Prozac to make it through the day. They maintain these statistics are evidence something has gone terribly wrong with the American way of life.

NEW DOCUMENTARY: Whats On Your Plate [child nutrition farming organic kids new york city

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

http://whatsonyourplateproject.org/ http://www.youutbe.com/user/aubinpictures

WHAT’S ON YOUR PLATE is a witty and provocative documentary and outreach campaign produced and directed by award-winning Catherine Gund about kids and food politics. Filmed over the course of one year, the film follows two eleven-year-old African-American city kids as they explore their place in the food chain. Sadie and Safiyah take a close look at food systems in New York City and its surrounding areas. With the camera as their companion, the girl guides talk to each other, food activists, farmers, new friends, storekeepers, their families, and the viewer, in their quest to understand what’s on all of our plates. Aubin Pictures seeks alliances with parents, teachers, food activists, policy makers, journalists, corporations, scientists, and, most importantly, kids to spread the message about the importance of local, healthy food in a young person’s life.

Simple Ways to Stay Healthier This Spring

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

It’s hard to stay healthy during the cooler months. Everyone from your kids to your co-workers seems to be sniffling, coughing and sneezing. Not only is being sick unpleasant, the cost adds up fast — there’s missed time from work or school, doctor’s visits and medication. As the old saying goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, so take steps now to ward off illness. One of the easiest ways to avoid colds and flu is to be scrupulous about washing your hands. Use soap and water and scrub for at least 20 seconds. Use a paper towel to turn off the water and open the bathroom door to avoid re-contamination. Eating right and getting plenty of rest are also important tools in the wellness arsenal. Plenty of nutritious food is essential to building a healthy immune system. A well-balanced diet provides sources of energy and nutrition. Lack of sleep can lower the immune system’s ability to react when needed and hampers its essential nightly repair work. Augment your diet by adding vitamins and other supplements to your daily routine. Vitamin C is useful in warding off colds, but there are other supplements that you should consider as well. Bioactive Nutrients, a Spooner, Wisc. company that has been in the business of helping people live healthier lifestyles, has a number of products that can help you stay healthy. Bioactive’s Berry Boost super antioxidant blend neutralizes free radicals and boosts the immune system, both important components of staying well. Antioxidants slow the activity of free radicals, created by pollution, use of alcohol and smoking, which leads to oxidation, a natural process that causes cell and tissue damage. Berry Boost contains a blend of seven natural fruit and herb seed flours producing a super antioxidant. A daily supplement that provides essential vitamins and minerals is also an important part of your winter health regimen. The ingredients in BioPLUS will help prevent colds and flu. It contains B vitamins to assist the body in utilizing the food you eat and support the nervous and immune systems, as well as essential trace elements to guard against disease. The formula includes vitamin D, a critical hormone involved in regulating cell growth, the immune system, and in promoting bone formation. Finally, Probiotic-CSP helps promote digestive health and improved immune function. This custom probiotic blend is a combination of seven strains of probiotic organisms and whole cranberry seed powder. Probiotic-CSP promotes the growth of good bacteria in your system, counteracting effects of antibiotic use. Antibiotics kill off good and bad bacteria in your system. A special cold-press process is used for the Probiotic-CSP to retain the ingredients’ original nutritional properties, unlike other products manufactured using high heat and chemical solvents.Taking a few preventive measures now will ensure better health. Pets Need Discount Vitamins Too

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

Discount vitamins are a boon for all mammals, whether they have two legs or four. Some pets have particular ailments that would benefit greatly from adding supplements to their regular diet. Even the birds and reptiles in the family can benefit from better nutrition, and all pets will be happier and healthier with the proper diet. Although pet vitamins are available, they are usually more expensive and harder to find than similar human products, and there’s no reason why humans and pets can’t share a regimen of good nutrition.

Parents nagging about nutrition, help.?

Sunday, April 18th, 2010

I simply want advice on how to keep my confidence high, while going through this.
My parents are HEALTH nuts.
My brother and my sister both have a personal trainer.
I am pretty much the devils kid in their eyes,
I enjoy McDonalds and other fast foods, I DO play hockey & volleyball, but it never seems to be enough physical activity.
She claims she’s just worried,
but the comments my mom comes up with and teering my confidence apart.

Aww man that sucks, because you seem normal, unlike most of the young girls on here freaking out over 3 pounds.. eating 200calories a day and what not.

Once A Month Cooking – How To Make It A Reality

Sunday, April 18th, 2010

Once a month cooking – who me? I don’t have time. Once a month cooking sounds like an option for the stay-at-home mother rather than today’s woman who juggles family and career and is more likely to found driving her kids to soccer practice than toiling away in the kitchen. It sounds like something that our mothers did not us.

The Entrepreneur Diet

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

Entrepreneurship is ripe ground for myth making. For example, to be successful, you have to be “born” an entrepreneur. That is unless, of course, you get lucky enough to be one of those “overnight” successes. Or, just possibly, you may strike gold by discovering the secret to “getting rich quick.” These kinds of fictions are convenient ways to explain the rising and falling fortunes of the world of business, and they’re harmless — except if you buy into them. Then they can become excuses for throwing in the towel on your business ambitions or, worse, not even trying in the first place.
