Led by Professor Peter Davies, Director of the Childrens Nutrition Research Centre, a group of passionate researchers is dedicated to improving the health of children and young people through scientific research and education of the highest international standard in the field of nutrition.
The Centre located at the Royal Childrens Hospital is at the forefront of paediatric nutrition research in Australia, and is working to better understand obesity and the best nutritional diet to manage or improve the condition in children.
The impact of the expanding waistlines in children is being seen on the hospital front line, with doctors now frequently diagnosing children with type2 diabetes and heart disease conditions previously only found in adults.
Researchers are also looking at the role nutrition plays in the treatment and management of sick children.
Good nutrition is a key element in growth, development and well-being in all children. This is especially so in children with chronic and acute disease, said Professor Davies.
Were very fortunate that we are able to employ a diverse range of internationally and nationally acclaimed experts including dietitians, gasteroenterologists and nutritionists so that we can work with doctors at the bedside to give kids every opportunity to regain good health.
